Steve Bein

Steve BeinI’m Steve Bein, author of the Fated Blades trilogy. I’m a philosopher, martial artist, traveler, translator, teacher, nerd, and novelist. The Fated Blades books are part police thriller, part Kurosawa samurai epic, with some WWII historical fiction and ninja heist capers thrown in for good measure. Tying all the stories together are the deadliest swords ever forged, which have the power to change the course of human history.

The first in the series, DAUGHTER OF THE SWORD, came out in 2012, followed by YEAR OF THE DEMON (2013) and most recently DISCIPLE OF THE WIND (2015). The series is published by Roc, Penguin’s fantasy imprint. Two companion novellas, ONLY A SHADOW and STREAMING DAWN are also available for your e-reader.

I write short fiction too, which has appeared in Asimov’s, Interzone, Writers of the Future, and in international translation. As a philosophy professor I also write academic books and articles, mostly in Chinese and Japanese philosophy, and I translated a seminal book on Zen Buddhism. I’ve lived in Germany, Japan, and seven US states, and after all of that I’m very happy to have recently settled in Dayton, Ohio. When I’m not teaching or writing, I’m probably in the pool or in the dojo.
